Position Overview The Logistics Coordinator strategically provides efficient and cost-effective logistics services by organizing and overseeing a team of employees to execute, direct, and coordinate shipments into and out of Bata Plastics, Inc.
sites; ensuring that products are properly loaded and unloaded and directing company truck drivers for deliveries.
Dispatches drivers, provides exceptional customer services, moves trailers, tracks, and approves repairs to tractors and trailers, tracks trailer rentals and storage trailers, coordinates deliveries and pickups, coordinates receiving drivers to unload incoming materials.
Essential Job Duties • Drives a culture of "Work Hard, Work Safe, Work with Respect" with actions and words every day; encouraging the team to "Do What is Right, Not What is Easy - the First Time.
" • Collaborates and communicates with customer service representatives, production, materials management, safety, sales and quality employees; and others involved in the shipment and receipt of products about information related to the shipment.
• Compiles carrier and route assignments • Drafts and distributes driver schedules; uses outside trucks and drivers when needed.
• Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
• Ensures that customer difficulties or problems are investigated and resolved.
• Negotiates and secures contracts with transportation providers and customers.
• Oversees and evaluates all activities of the dock and dock employees, ensuring safe and efficient loading and unloading of all freight.
• Conducts daily inspections, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and internal laws, regulations, and policies.
• Tracks and verifies tractor and trailer repairs.
• Audits all docks for mechanical issues and follows repair tickets to close.
• Directs all maintenance, repair, and replacement of logistics equipment or vehicles.
• Dispatches drivers for deliveries and pickups.
• Tracks, traces, and updates the status of shipments.
• Monitors freight movement using various computer software applications.
• Consults with production planning team to plan deliveries for the next day.
• Coordinates with receiving drivers to ensure smooth dispatching and unloading of trailers.
• Maintains knowledge of regulations related to transportation including those related to hazardous shipments, employee safety, and freight classifications.
• Implements safety audits and trains staff members on safety issues.
• Teaches and implements safe lifting and loading techniques and regularly evaluates employees' compliance.
• Ensures compliance with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, environmental policies, and government regulations.
• Checks pallet trailer and schedules pickup when required.
• Uses forklift to load and unload product from, and onto, tractor trailers.
• Moves trailers as needed.
• Updates communication board for moving trailers.
• Tracks tractor and trailer rentals/leases • Audits storage trailers.
• Manages incoming live unloads.
• Updates live load and unload communication board.
• Manages temporary drivers.
• Completes reporting for pallet trailers and cardboard trailers, Bata trucking tracking log and repairs on tractors.
• Approves invoices for repairs and rentals/leases.
• Collaborates with staff working on tariff classifications or billing.
• Successfully conducts and completes all assigned trainings.
• Participates in continuous improvement training and trains others.
• Maintains knowledge of best practices including the most efficient and cost-effective shipping methods.
• Assesses efficiency and performance of dispatch and distribution activities; identifies and recommends improvements to shift, department, and facility.
• Ensures product handling and delivery practices meet customer expectations, and daily, weekly, monthly, and annual business objectives.
• In collaboration with other managers, develops and implements policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for transportation operations.
• Reviews and analyzes expenditures and other financial information; uses results to develop and implement plans, policies, and budgets.
• Provides additional backup support for shipping and receiving departments.
Education and Experience • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in Logistics or related field preferred.
• At least three years of related logistics operations experience required, including dispatching and DOT knowledge or past experience in coordinating dock schedules for loading and unloading materials.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.
• Current commercial driver's license (CDL) with clean state motor vehicle truck operator's record highly preferred.
Additional Skills Required • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Basic understanding of truck freight rates.
• Strong understanding of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements and other related safety policies and best practices.
• Possess working knowledge of personal computer, and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or related software and SharePoint to monitor and maintain records and schedule trailer tracking.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
• Mechanically inclined.
• Able to effectively manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong logistical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Work Hours and Benefits Monday – Friday 6:30 am-3:30 pm (may need to arrive earlier or stay later as needed; must be flexible to work an alternate schedule as required).
