Description: This position is located at our Mary Free Bed YMCA and works under the direction of the RAYS Parent Board.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the RAYS Parent Board, and in accordance with the mission statement of the YMCA of the Grand Rapids Area, the Assistant Swim Coach/ Administrative & Communication Specialist is responsible for conducting practices for assigned workout groups and attending team competitions.
In addition, this individual will be responsible for updates to the team website and social media presence.
Administrative duties may include responding to emails, assisting in season registration, assisting with meet entries and files, and general communication for the team.
This individual will commit professional leadership to the achievement of the YMCA’s vision and core values and conduct personal and professional affairs in a manner that will exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist the coaching team with functions related to swim team program including scheduling, staffing, practices, meet planning, team development and financial responsibility.
Provide professional coaching, improve performance, increase, and retain membership and develop programs for the continued growth of the team.
Age groups will be discussed at hire.
Plan and execute daily practices for group or groups assigned.
Communicate with coaching team, swimmers, and parents on progress of swimmers.
Attend meets on regular basis.
Practices Range: Monday-Friday and Sat.
AM with flexibility to change / alter when needed.
Provide excellent communications skills and relationship building with team membership, board, staff, schools, local businesses and other swim teams and coaches.
Provide leadership to swimmers and parents both at practice and meets.
Regularly update the team’s social media presence; including – but not limited to: Website, Facebook, Instagram etc.
Assist with meet preparation & meet entries.
Assist with team season - registration.
Display and exemplify the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of the job performance and in relationships with others.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Support goals and mission of YMCA Develop programs for the continued growth of the team.
Good public relations with swimmers, parents, and community.
Implementation of a high-quality competitive swim program.
Attend all required training and meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.
COMPENSATION Starting pay at $20.
00 (15 - 20 hours/week) Free YMCA Individual Membership Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS The Assistant Head Coach must be at least 23 years of age (to rent and drive a vehicle out-of-state while on meets) and have a minimum of 5 years of coaching and/or competitive swim experience.
Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
Ability to demonstrate aquatic skills.
Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
At least sixteen years of age or older.
YMCA experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS Swim Instructor Certification required Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for rescue (required) First Aid Certification required within the first 30 days AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 30 days Blood Borne Pathogen training Child Abuse Prevention training State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT) WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, in an echoing environment.
TRAVEL 0-5% of local travel within the state of Michigan; occasional out-of-state travel may be required for educational conferences, championship meets or training.
