This faculty position is located primarily on Ferris State University’s Grand Rapids campus and will involve on-campus and online instruction of course content, as assigned/scheduled.
The anticipated start date of this position is January 2024 at the earliest and August 2024 at the latest.
Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing Required Education: A Master's Degree in Software engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or equivalent degree.
Required Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relative experience in design, development, and deployment of software.
Experience designing and implementing projects in cutting-edge software areas including one or more of the following: • Web development frameworks, RESTful services, high throughput services, engineering for availability, microservices, Cloud development • Internet of Things and embedded systems • Mobile application development • Data science and analytics • Virtual reality and Augmented reality • Autonomous vehicles technology • Robotics, Artificial intelligence, and Machine learning Required Licenses and Certifications: None Physical Demands: Office Environment Bending Carrying Moving Reaching Sitting Twisting Lifting Pulling/Pushing Repetitive Movement Standing Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: 1.
Doctorate degree or ABD 2.
Strong track record in designing and implementing large scale consumer-facing applications 3.
ABET accreditation knowledge and experience 4.
Minimum of 5 years of relative experience in design, development and deployment of software.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: As part of the teaching assignment, this position will include student advising, participation with student recruitment and retention activities; participation in curriculum and course review and revision; maintaining relations with internal and external agencies and groups; Teaching at DMSE summer camps; serving on committees, and performing other duties as assigned.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities that may include continuing professional development; participation in curriculum development and university committees; orientation, recruitment, and registration of students; keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex.
reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
Striving for organization, efficiency, and participation in traditional functions with academic significance, like attending and contributing to Engineering and Education seminars / conferences.
Faculty teach primarily via online delivery.
Classes, meetings, and advising may occur on the Ferris State campuses in Grand Rapids or Big Rapids.
Demonstrates understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
