POSITION: Fifth Grade Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold a valid State of Michigan elementary teaching certificate.
High level of understanding about personalized learning and competency-based education systems preferred.
Experience with Capturing Kids Hearts, True Success, F & P, and Bridges preferred.
Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity, equity, and cultural competence.
Knowledge of own competence in the area of diversity and equity, how this influences own behavior and a desire to learn about others identities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote a personalized approach to education, including advancing supportive strategies such as flipped classrooms, student-led assignments and assessments, portfolio development, student voice and choice, etc.
Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), analyzing student data through the lens of the four PLC questions.
Must be a collaborative team member with a strong work ethic.
Prepare course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
Establish and enforce classroom management procedures consistent with building and district protocol while incorporating the tenets of True Success and Capturing Kids Hearts.

Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and report to parents as needed and required.
Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
Utilize a multi-tiered system of support, as well as adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
Create standard operating procedures that promote student agency and foster a collaborative learning environment.
Use a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.
Establish clear objectives and success criteria for all lessons, units and projects and communicate those objectives to the students.
Assign and grade classwork and homework, adhering to building and district protocols.
Prepare, administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress.
Collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction and adapt and modify curriculum in order to meet individual student needs.
Participate in the development and revision of goals and performance objectives for students, course content and learning activities, evaluate procedures and instructional materials.
Keep attendance and academic records as required by the district.
