Harbor Hawk is a *marine construction* company.
We specialize in the installation of docks, boatlifts, seawalls, permanent docks, permanent lifts, stairways, platforms, and decks.
The Porter role consists of an employee who is a *supplier, supporter, and a floater* for the Dock and Lift team.
The daily tasks include but are not limited to *shop organization, general barge maintenance, new parts pickups, restocking of Dock and Lift supplies/ parts, and support for the field staff.
* Other tasks include *boat, dock, and boatlift transportation using a a dual wheeled service body truck and a trailer.
* Also the *building and assembling of some docks and boatlifts* may be necessary to prepare the Dock and Lift crews for the following day.
Hours of operation are early morning to mid day, depending on the Dock and Lift install crews day, having the most to do after the Dock and Lift team complete their day.
The Porter works mainly at the shop, resupplying Dock and Lift items, completing the "Porter Checklist", or prepping the Barges for the next day.
Sometimes the Porter can *pick up and deliver parts to the field team* that could include Boat Lift builds or Dock assembly for easy transport or install for the team.
While not busy with Dock and Lift support, the Porter can do tasks associated with shop maintenance, or tasks to set up the team for success.
Porter Daily Checklist General Shop Organization * Ensure everything is put in its designated space.
All Equipment has a home and should be stored there if not in use.
* Ensure commonly used areas are kept up and not littered with trash or random items.
* Ensure areas are swept and clear of debris or water from Barges or their trailers.
* Dock and Lift support.
* Parts Pickups.
This includes *driving to manufactures and retrieving parts* for the following jobs.
Parts pickups should be scheduled in advance, being picked up by the previous Tuesday or Thursday.
These will be scheduled and organized by the Dock and Lift Supervisor.
Some pickups *may require a trailer* to be brought along for bigger equipment such as boatlifts or dock.
* Item Status Reports.
For the Dock and Lift teams regularly used tools, please perform a daily Status Report to insure that they are working correctly unless specified by the Dock and Lift team that they need replacement.
If tools need to be replaced, use the stand by tools to make sure the team is functioning properly, then replace or fix the tool and put it as the new standby tool.
* Item Restock.
Restocking of the general used hardware or items by the Dock and Lift team on the Barge.
Typically fasteners, bolts, nuts and washers as well as wood pads.
* Install Team Prep.
Ensure the install team is supplied with any necessary parts for the next day.
This could include parts on the shelf or from Parts Pickups.
* General Barge Maintenance.
* Barge Refuel.
Ensure the barges are topped off with fuel for the next day.
* Barge Washdown.
This is commonly referred to as Deconning the Barges.
This is critical to stay in compliance with the DNR while moving from lake to lake without transporting harmful or invasive species.
Make sure to do this after refueling incase of overfill/ spilling of fuel on Barge.
* Barge parking, mission ready for next day.
The Crew Chiefs will specify which spot to park their barges in, if one crew will leave before the other then spot 1 will occupy their barge.
* Porter Weekly Checklist.
Barge Maintenance * Grease Barges.
All grease zirks and high friction areas.
* Check Hydraulic fluid levels in Barges.
Fill if needed.
* Trailer Check.
Check running boards on trailers when Barges are off.
Look for damages and replace if needed.
* Other specified maintenance.
