Job Description Summary
The Platform Software group develops embedded software for a multitude of product areas at GE Aerospace across both civil and military markets including avionics computing and networking, flight management, vehicle health and data management, and mission systems.
The Senior Software Project Lead (SPL) will be responsible for leading Platform Software engineering teams on key projects.
The SPL will act as the primary engineering interface with our customers and internal project stakeholders.
In addition to providing expertise in project management and execution, the SPL will also provide technical oversight and guidance to their software teams and global suppliers to successfully complete full-lifecycle embedded software development efforts through DO-178B/C certification.
This is a Grand Rapids, MI opportunity and requires relocation to Grand Rapids, MI if you do not currently reside in the area, Corporate relocation assistance provided.
Job Description In this role, you will focus on the following areas of responsibility: Project Management: Lead a software engineering development team distributed across multiple GE and supplier sites within the United States and abroad to develop Platform Software products.
Perform project execution including planning, schedule, cost, technical, risk and quality.
Coordinate with customers and internal project stakeholders including Systems, Hardware, Safety, Security, Quality, Certification, and Sourcing.
Perform sub-contract management with engineering suppliers.
Document aspects of the project details and maintain a constant communication flow with the software team, support groups, and management to ensure all stakeholders stay current.
Provide status and metrics.
Collaborate with Platform Software Engineering Managers to implement key staffing, technology, & reuse strategies, and sponsor process improvements during project execution.
Technical Leadership: Provide mentorship for sub-team leads.
Guide project teams through the full software life cycle including requirements, design, implementation, verification & validation, and certification.
Maintain expert level of product knowledge and application.
**The preferred location for this position is Grand Rapids, MI on at least a hybrid basis.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in computer software related technology and embedded real-time systems / software development.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering program execution through the full development life cycle.

Experience driving large-scale, global software development efforts.
Familiarity with Earned Value Management and Activity Based Management methods.
Familiarity with Agile Scrum.
Process: Minimum of 5 years of experience with DO-178B/C avionics software development processes and certification standards.
Familiarity with DO-254, DO-297, and ARP-4754 certification standards.
Application of Product Line Engineering (PLE) principles and tools to manage software lifecycle artifacts.
Application of Lean practices in a software engineering environment.
Technology: Knowledge of processing platforms, network products, real-time operating systems, and multi-core processor architectures.
Demonstrated expertise with ARINC-653 integrated modular avionics (IMA) based operating systems.
Traits: Strong written and oral communication skills with keen ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.
